Why Dr. Martin Picard Joined CFAC’s Scientific & Medical Advisory Board
- By Countdown
Meet Martin Picard, PhD, a mitochondrial psychobiologist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Chair of Energy and Health at the Columbia Aging Center, and a member of our Scientific & Medical Advisory Board. Dr. Picard leads the Mitochondrial Psychobiology Group, where his research brings together mitochondrial biology, bioenergetics, and aging science with integrative medicine, psychosocial science, and contemplative practices.
His work pioneers the emerging discipline of mitochondrial psychobiology, exploring how cellular energy systems shape human health, resilience, and disease across the lifespan. Through interdisciplinary initiatives, including the NIH-funded Mitochondrial Stress, Brain Imaging, and Epigenetics (MiSBIE) Study, his team integrates molecular biology, brain imaging, and psychosocial research to better understand the connection between the mind and mitochondria.
At the heart of his work is a mission to bridge the science of energy with the human experience, helping build a new scientific field he calls Healing Science, aimed at understanding how energy, biology, and lived experience come together to shape health and human potential.
