COUNTDOWN FOR A CURE, INC. (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a Georgia nonprofit corporation, respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it through our compliance with this policy.

This policy describes the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit the website located at Countdown (our “Website”) and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.

This policy applies to information we collect:

• On this Website. Information you submit through forms on the Website, such as when you sign up for membership, donate, contact us, or subscribe to our mailing list.
• In email and other electronic messages between you and the Company.
• Automatically as you navigate the Website, through analytics technologies as described below.

It does not apply to information collected by:

• Us offline or through any other means, including on any other website operated by the Company or any third party; or
• Any third party, including any application, plugin, payment processor, or content provider that may link to or be accessible from the Website, each of which is governed by its own privacy policy.

Please read this policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your information and how we will treat it. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, your choice is not to use our Website. BY ACCESSING AND/OR USING THE WEBSITE, YOU ARE ACKNOWLEDGING THAT YOU HAVE READ AND AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS WEBSITE PRIVACY POLICY. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE, YOU MUST IMMEDIATELY CEASE USING THE WEBSITE. This policy may change from time to time (see Changes to Our Privacy Policy below). Your continued use of this Website after we make changes is deemed to be acceptance of those changes, so please check the policy periodically for updates.

We collect several types of information from and about users of our Website, including information:

• That is about you but does not individually identify you, such as your interactions with the Website and the pages you view; and

• From the third-party platforms we use to operate the Website (for example, our membership, donation, and email service providers), which collect your information directly from you and make certain information available to us so that we can administer your membership, donation, or communications.

The information we collect on or through our Website may include:

• Information that you provide by filling in forms on our Website. This includes information provided when you register for or manage a membership, make a one-time or recurring donation, subscribe to our mailing list, or submit a question or request through our contact form.
• Records and copies of your correspondence (including e-mail addresses) if you contact us.
• Details of donations and membership transactions you carry out through our Website. 

Payment information. When you make a donation or sign up for a membership, you are directed to the secure platforms of our third-party payment and membership providers (Donorbox and Memberful) to enter your payment card and billing information. Those providers process your payment directly. We do not collect or store your full payment card number or other sensitive financial account information on our Website. Your use of those providers is subject to their own privacy policies and terms.

As you navigate through and interact with our Website, we may use automatic data collection technologies to collect certain information about your equipment, browsing actions, and patterns, including:

• Details of your visits to our Website, including traffic data, approximate location data, logs, and the pages and resources that you access and use on the Website; and
• Information about your computer and internet connection, including your IP address, operating system, device type, and browser type.

We collect this information using Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers to help us understand how visitors use our Website, for example, to estimate audience size and usage patterns, and to improve the Website. This information helps us deliver a more useful service. Google Analytics is the only tracking or analytics technology we use on the Website, and we do not use cookies or similar technologies to serve advertising or to track you across other websites.

You can prevent your data from being used by Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by managing cookies through your browser settings as described under Choices About How We Use and Disclose Your Information below.

Our Website relies on a small number of established third-party platforms to operate. In most cases these platforms collect your information directly from you (for example, on their own hosted pages or embedded forms) and process it under their own privacy policies and security practices. We deliberately minimize the personal information we collect and store directly: where possible, sensitive information such as payment data is entered on the provider’s platform rather than collected or stored by us. The principal platforms we use are:

• WP Engine – hosts the Website and manages the underlying hosting infrastructure and security, including our SSL certificate and traffic management.
• Memberful – manages memberships and membership content. When you register for or manage a membership, you are directed to Memberful to enter your personal and payment information.
• Donorbox – processes one-time and recurring donations. When you donate, you are directed to Donorbox to complete your transaction and are then returned to our Website.
• Mailchimp – manages our mailing lists and e-mail communications. If you subscribe to our mailing list, Mailchimp stores and manages your e-mail address and related list information.
• Contact Form 7 – powers the contact form on our Website. When you submit the form, the information you provide (such as your name, e-mail address, and message) is transmitted to us so that we can respond to your inquiry.
• Google Analytics – provides website analytics, as described above.

Each of these providers maintains its own privacy policy that governs its collection and use of your information. We encourage you to review those policies. We do not control these providers’ independent data practices.

We use information that we collect about you or that you provide to us, including any personal information:

• To present our Website and its contents to you.
• To process and acknowledge your one-time and recurring donations.
• To administer your membership and provide you with access to membership content.
• To send you communications you have requested, such as our newsletter or mailing list updates.
• To respond to your inquiries and requests, including those submitted through our contact form.
• To provide you with notices about your membership, including expiration and renewal notices.
• To carry out our obligations and enforce our rights, including for recordkeeping relating to donations and memberships.
• To notify you about changes to our Website or any services we offer or provide through it.
• In any other way we may describe when you provide the information, or for any other purpose with your consent.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing, advertising, or research purposes.

We may disclose aggregated or de-identified information about our users, which does not identify any individual, without restriction.

We may disclose personal information that we collect or that you provide as described in this privacy policy:

• To the third-party service providers we use to operate the Website and deliver our services to you (such as our hosting, membership, donation, e-mail, and analytics providers described above), who are permitted to use your information only to provide those services to us.
• To a buyer or other successor in the event of a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other transfer of some or all of Countdown for a Cure, Inc.’s assets, in which personal information held by the Company about our Website users is among the assets transferred.
• To fulfill the purpose for which you provide it.
• For any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information.
• With your consent.

We may also disclose your personal information:

• To comply with any court order, law, or legal process, including to respond to any government or regulatory request.
• If we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of Countdown for a Cure, Inc., our members, donors, or others, including for fraud protection.

We strive to provide you with choices regarding the personal information you provide to us. We have created mechanisms to provide you with the following control over your information:

• Analytics and Cookies. You can set your browser to refuse all or some browser cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being sent. You can also opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on referenced above. If you disable or refuse cookies, please note that some parts of the Website may then be inaccessible or not function properly.
• Promotional Communications. If you no longer wish to receive our newsletter or other mailing list communications, you may unsubscribe at any time by following the unsubscribe link contained in any such e-mail, or by contacting us at info@joincountdown.org.

We do not currently sell personal information or share it with third parties for their direct marketing. In the event our policy changes, we will post a notice on the Website and, where appropriate, notify members by e-mail. Should a change in policy trigger the sale opt-out rights under Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 603A, Nevada residents who wish to exercise such rights may submit a request to info@joincountdown.org. 

California residents may have additional rights and choices regarding their personal information. Please see Your California Privacy Rights below for more information.

If you are a member, you can review and change certain personal information by logging into your member account through Memberful. You may also send us an e-mail at info@joincountdown.org to request access to, correct, or delete any personal information that you have provided to us. We may not accommodate a request to change information if we believe the change would violate any law or legal requirement or cause the information to be incorrect.

Please note that some of your information is held by our third-party providers (for example, your mailing list subscription is managed by Mailchimp and your donation records by Donorbox). We will work with those providers, where applicable, to give effect to your request, and you may also contact those providers directly.

If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights regarding the personal information we hold about you, which may include the right to know about, access, correct, or delete that information. 

California’s “Shine the Light” law (Civil Code Section § 1798.83) permits users who are California residents to request certain information regarding our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. As noted above, we do not currently share personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. In the event our policy changes, we will post a notice on the Website and, where appropriate, notify members by e-mail.

Our Website is operated in the United States and is intended for users located in the United States. If you access the Website or make a donation from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and by the third-party providers described in this policy. By using the Website or providing us with your information, you consent to this transfer, storage, and processing. 

What Happens to Personal Data Submitted by Minors?

We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from individuals under the age of 18. Additionally, our Website is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We request that these individuals not provide Personal Data to us. If we learn that Personal Data from users under the age of 18 has been collected, we will take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data from our records. If you are aware of a user under the age of 18 accessing the Website, please contact us at info@joincountdown.org. 

If you are a resident of California under the age of 18 and have disclosed Personal Data to us, you may ask us to remove content or information that you have submitted through or to our Website. 

We have implemented measures designed to help protect your personal information. Our Website is hosted by WP Engine, which provides the underlying hosting security, including an SSL certificate to encrypt information transmitted to and from the Website. Payment information you provide in connection with donations and memberships is processed by our third-party payment providers (Donorbox and Memberful) on their secure platforms and is not collected or stored by us.

The safety and security of your information also depends on you. Where you have chosen a password for access to membership areas of our Website, you are responsible for keeping that password confidential. We ask you not to share your password with anyone.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we and our service providers take reasonable measures to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of personal information transmitted to or through our Website, and any transmission is at your own risk.

It is our policy to post any changes we make to our privacy policy on this page. If we make material changes to how we treat our users’ personal information, we will post a notice on the Website and, where appropriate, notify members by e-mail. The date this privacy policy was last revised is identified at the top of the page. You are responsible for periodically visiting our Website and this privacy policy to check for any changes.
