Her specialties include Infertility, Chronic Inflammation, Autoimmune Conditions and Longevity, all of which have improving mitochondrial function at their core.
In this article, Debra shares:
  • How Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) thinks about energy and vitality through the concept of Qi, and how she connects that framework to mitochondrial function.
  • Traditional practices such as qigong, Tai Chi, acupuncture, and herbal medicine that are used in TCM to support energy and balance.
  • The role of everyday habits  including time outdoors, whole foods, sleep, and stress management,  in supporting energy and overall well-being.
  • Her perspective on bringing traditional Eastern practices together with our evolving understanding of mitochondrial health.

“Think of mitochondrial energy or Qi as gas in your tank that powers your body.”

You probably learned in junior high science that mitochondria are the “powerhouse of the cell.” Different types of cells in your body contain different numbers of mitochondria per cell, with your brain, heart and skeletal muscle having hundreds and up to thousands per cell! Western medicine recognizes that poor mitochondrial function is a contributing factor to many chronic diseases and the aging process itself. I’d like to introduce you to a different way of looking at mitochondrial function- through the eyes of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
